Dan believes the two biggest forces that inform the spaces we inhabit are architecture and nature. As human impact has grown to touch almost every corner of our planet, it is becoming increasingly important to understand how we can foster a sustainable relationship between the two. Dan is interested in high-quality structures that consider carbon output, waste reduction, and factor in the ability to make future modifications and give materials second lives.
Dan’s background as a carpenter gives him a deep appreciation for materiality and detailing. Craftsmanship makes a space feel special, from designing with intention to making the design come to life, and his experience on both sides of the process enables him to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
Dan values wood in particular, as one of our only regenerative materials, capable of sequestering carbon, and for its deep ties to human subconsciousness that have proven to reduce cortisol levels. However, we must design with an intimate understanding of forest ecology and timber harvesting techniques in order to make an impact. Dan enjoys building and making in his spare time, being a big tree nerd surrounded by nature, continually looking to increase his knowledge of the natural world and ecological systems. Also, dogs are the best.
